If HMDs are
the external symbol of virtual reality applications, tracking systems
are the real engine between all successful interactive environments.
Motion tracking measures and reports an object's position and
orientation as it changes in time. When you move your computer mouse
and your cursor mirrors that movement, you are tracking motion in a
very simple way. Precision motion tracking technology allows you to
track objects in 3-dimensional space - X, Y, Z, yaw, pitch, and roll -
or 6 degrees-of-freedom (6DOF).
Motion tracking facilitates the interaction between people and
computers. Historically, the lack of smooth and rapid tracking of the
user's motion has blocked commercial acceptance of immersive 3D
computer graphics. To be successful, the perspective of the virtual
image seen by the computer must be an accurate representation of what
we see in the real world. As the user's head or camera moves, turns, or
tilts, the computer-generated environment must change accordingly with
no noticeable lag, jitter or distortion.

InterSense, a leader in
precision motion tracking, utilizes patented, inertial-based
technology to deliver fast, accurate, driftless motion tracking
solutions free of the lag and jitter common to traditional
technologies. InterSense's software and hardware technologies,
originally developed and patented at MIT, have set a new standard in
motion tracking by significantly improving upon the precision,
performance and price of magnetic, optical and mechanical trackers.

InertiaCube2
|
|

|
|
The
InertiaCube2 is the World's smallest inertial orientation reference
system. Connecting directly to the PC's RS-232 serial connector, the
tracker's 180 Hz update rate eliminates tracker induced lag.
Controllable filters, adjustable rotational sensitivity and settable
motion prediction provides fine-tuning of the InertiaCube2 for your
specific application.
The InertiaCube2 comes with a software developers kit (SDK) which includes
IServer control & connectivity software, dynamic link and shared
object libraries (.dll and .so), making it ideal for your Windows,
Linux and IRIX applications.

IS-300 Pro
|
|

|
|
The IS-300 Pro
supports the industry's fastest update rate (up to 500Hz) and provides
the world's lowest latency tracking device. It is completely
sourceless, meaning no setup, no line-of-sight constraints and
virtually unlimited operating range.
The IS-300 Pro predicts motion up to 50 ms in the future, compensating
for graphics rendering delays and eliminating simulator lag. InterSense
is the only company to employ the proven benefits of inertial angular
rate and acceleration sensors to provide accurate feed-forward motion
prediction.

Wireless Modules
|
|

|
|
Designed to
augment the current IS-900 systems, the new Wireless Modules provide
freedom from wires connected to the IS-900 Processor. The Wireless
Receiver and Transmitter pairs are plug compatible with IS-900 VET, VWT
and SimTracker systems.
InterSense designed its' wireless technology with field proven 2.4 GHz
spread spectrum technology. The current MiniTrax devices plug into a
small, belt clip module containing a rechargeable battery and
transceiver circuitry. As with the original MiniTrax devices, the new
wireless implementation is ergonomically designed for use with data
gloves and stereo glasses.
IS-900 Wireless Modules Features:
Advanced Radio Technology - Spread spectrum 2.4 GHz frequency
hopping communications for interference free operation.
Smart Battery Power - The
rechargeable lithium ion battery provides 6 to 8 hours of continuous
operation. Auto sleep circuitry detects periods of non-use to conserve
battery power. Auto-connect circuitry re-establishes tracking
communication to IS-900 Processor without system reset.
Lightweight Compact Packaging - Belt clip Wireless Transmitter
Module is 5.9 cm x 9.5 cm x 2.5 cm and weighs 126 grams. Wireless
Receiver Module is 6.1 cm x 9.4 cm x 2.5 cm and plugs into IS-900
Processor.

IS-900 MiniTrax
Devices
|
|

|
|
Designed to augment the current
IS-900 systems, the new MiniTrax devices provide the same performance
as the Wand and Stylus Trackers with reduced weight & size. InterSense
has employed new advanced ultrasonic & inertial technology to
reduce the size & weight by 75% without sacrificing the IS-900
performance. The devices are ergonomically designed for use with data
gloves and stereo glasses.
IS-900 MiniTrax Features:
Reduced Size - The worlds most precise, real-time 6DOF position
and orientation tracking system, now with 75% smaller, lightweight
sensors.
Advanced Inertial Technology - Advanced MEMS components are integrated
in the inertial core of the MiniTrax stations to provide lower sensor
noise and overall tracking performance improvements.
Miniature Ultrasonic Microphones - The new 2 mm diameter
microphones used in the MiniTrax device provide a 180ˇĆ reception cone
angle for the acoustic pulses from the IS-900's ultrasonic transmitters
(SoniStrips). This improves overall tracking performance and reduces
the number of microphones needed on the tracked device.
Serial Protocol Communication - The new devices communicate to
the IS-900 processor via an in-line converter that changes the
InterSense station protocol communication interface to a serial data
stream. The serial protocol allows for greater cable lengths and a
simplified design approach for future wireless implementation.
